The Musselburgh Festival started on Sunday July 20 with the traditional Kirkin' service at St Michael's Church, Inveresk.
Honest Lad Mark Lambert and Honest Lass Kimberley Riddoch laid an anchor-shaped wreath at the parish war memorial.

On Monday July 21, the Crusaders' Club chase was held, during which the River Esk was forded before hundreds of spectators, culminating in an exciting gallop over the sand at Fishherow.

The Crusaders' charter was read out at Fa'side Castle where the flag was hoisted to signify that Musselburgh is in Festival.

Extensive editorial and picture coverage appears in the Musselburgh News of July 25, 2008
