Coalminers, fishermen, witches and farm workers are just some of the photographs explained in Shona McMillan's latest exhibition which is currently on show at Prestonpans library.
Two-and-a-half years in the making, the project, which Shona has titled P3P (Prestonpans, Past, Present and Potential), illustrates the history of Prestonpans and the surrounding area of Morrison's Haven, Cockenzie and Port Seton.
Shona told the
News: "It has been a lot of work to undertake on my own, yet, I am very pleased with the quality of images I have managed to source for my project.
"East Lothian Council's libraries and museum service, SCRAN, Prestonpans Local History Society and several private postcard collectors kindly allowed me to use copies of their images which I selected and researched.
"Contrasting with photographs I have taken myself, old and new combine to around 300 images with subtitles.
Enthusiasm"Having laminated all displays and kept them to A4 size enables me to take the exhibition out into other venues, such as care homes.
"I find it very satisfying when I see people's enthusiasm for the photos and hear them share the stories which the pictures rekindle in their mind.
"For visitors outwith the area, I find it equally rewarding to at least give them a flavour of the rich cultural heritage which this beautiful county and its 43 miles of coastline has to offer".
The exhibition can be seen in Prestonpans library until September 9, after which it moves to Port Seton library on September 19 and then on to Midlothian for a tour of libraries over the winter.
