Scouts and Guides enjoy their time at international camp

A party of Scouts and Guides from Longniddry made many new friends during a week at the WS2008 International Camp in West Sussex recently.
More than 3,000 Scouts, Guides and leaders attended the event at the South of England Showground at Ardingly. Countries such as France, Germany, Denmark, Canada, USA, South Africa, Poland and St Lucia were represented.

The Longniddry group travell
ed by train from Edinburgh to Haywards Heath where they were met by their hosts, the 2nd Goring Scouts, 3rd Goring Guides and Hurstpierpoint Guides.

They took part in a wide range of activities including climbing and abseiling, sailing, mountain biking, archery, circus skills, air rifles, laser clay pigeon shooting and crafts.

Teacakes


The Scouts and Guides from Longniddry organised a 'Taste of Scotland' for an international food fair and introduced lots of youngsters to haggis.

They also provided samples of shortbread, oatcakes, tablet, Edinburgh Rock and Tunnocks teacakes and caramel wafers.

This was followed by a display of Scottish country dancing on the main stage as part of the display of national entertainments.

A carnival raised £5,000 for a local children's hospice, the Chestnut Tree House.

A talent show, karaoke night, disco and gang show took place and the closing ceremony featured a live band, dancing and fireworks display.
